“Independent Palestine” would like to invite you to a press conference in East Jerusalem, in which it will formally announce its list of candidates running for Palestine Legislative Council (PLC) elections in January 2006.
Independent Palestine is a coalition composed of independents, business leaders, academics, writers, women, youth, labour movements, and the Palestinian National Initiative (PNI, or “Al Mubadara”), from the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem.
The coalition represents the truly independent “third way” in Palestinian politics, providing the huge majority of silent and undecided Palestinian voters with a democratic alternative to the bi-polar options presented by Hamas and Fatah.
The coalition could take a substantial share of the democratic opposition vote away from Hamas.
The press conference will be led by Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, Head of the Independent Palestine list. Dr. Barghouthi achieved second place in the 2005 Presidential Elections, officially gaining 20 percent of votes. There will also be a contribution from other members of the Independent Palestine coalition.
